YouTuber Park Wi has apologized and deleted a video showing CCTV footage of a wheelchair accident he experienced while getting off a KTX train after facing criticism over its release.
On August 21 KST, Park Wi uploaded a video titled “Why I’m Releasing the CCTV Footage” to his YouTube channel, WERACLE. The video was removed just hours later as controversy grew.
Following the deletion, Park Wi posted an apology through his YouTube community.
“I’m sorry for disappointing so many people with the video I uploaded today,” he wrote. “I failed to consider the position of the staff member who did their best to help me at the scene and sincerely apologized afterward.”
He continued, “I viewed a mistake that occurred in the process of trying to assist me better only from a negative perspective. The way I communicated the situation was inadequate, and I did not think it through carefully enough.”
Park Wi also apologized to everyone who assisted him at the scene and said he would be more cautious and responsible in the future.
The incident occurred on August 14, when Park Wi took a KTX train to attend a speaking engagement. While descending a ramp to exit the train in his wheelchair, one of the wheels reportedly became caught against the foot of a public service worker assisting him, causing Park Wi to fall.
The CCTV footage Park Wi initially uploaded showed the moment he fell from the ramp.
In the video, Park Wi asked viewers to refrain from directing criticism toward any particular individual. He instead emphasized the need for improved safety procedures, noting that a single mistake could potentially lead to a serious accident.
However, reactions online were divided. Some netizens argued that publicly sharing the CCTV footage on a YouTube channel with around 1 million subscribers was excessive, particularly because the worker involved had reportedly been trying to assist Park Wi and had apologized after the accident.
Others criticized the video for potentially placing public pressure on an individual over an unintentional mistake despite Park Wi’s request not to attack anyone.
As the backlash continued, Park Wi deleted the video around midnight and issued his apology, acknowledging that he had failed to sufficiently consider the perspective of those who had assisted him.
