SHINee’s Taemin has made history as the first male K-pop solo artist to perform at the renowned Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. This landmark achievement comes ahead of his solo comeback with the release of his album 'PHASE 1 : Soft Violence' on August 31 at 6 PM KST across both domestic and international music platforms.
On August 11, Taemin’s agency Galaxy Corporation released an intriguing intro video titled 'This Is The End' to introduce the album’s world. The video uses surreal visuals such as an empty theater, a clock stopped at 11:59, repeated train arrival announcements, and endlessly extending shoelaces to symbolize a looping cycle of time and a character’s struggle to break free from it.
The creative concept plays with everyday spaces and objects, blending reality with fantasy to create a mysterious and unsettling atmosphere. Taiwanese-born, New York-based artist and designer John Yuyi contributed to the project, applying his unique approach to digital culture and identity to complete the video’s surreal and haunting mood.
The album title 'PHASE 1 : Soft Violence' combines opposing ideas of softness and violence, promising fans a fresh and compelling musical experience. Following the comeback, Taemin will hold a solo concert from September 18 to 20 at Seoul’s Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium, launching his new world tour titled 'LiMiNaL'. The tour name comes from the Latin word 'Limen,' meaning a boundary that represents not an end but a moment of transformation and new beginnings.
Taemin’s groundbreaking appearance at Coachella, followed by his participation in the British outdoor festival British Summer Time Hyde Park (BST Hyde Park), further cements his expanding global presence beyond the K-pop scene. His upcoming activities are highly anticipated as he continues to evolve as a distinctive artist on the world stage.
