Actor Hwang Jung Min’s agency has issued a new statement after online speculation wrongly identified an unrelated individual as the person involved in the actor’s ongoing legal dispute.
On July 31 KST, SEM Company announced that it had confirmed the spread of abusive comments, insults, and unverified speculation targeting an ordinary fan who has no connection to the case.
The agency emphasized that the individual currently being discussed online is simply a fan of Hwang Jung Min and is not the alleged stalker referenced in ongoing legal proceedings.
“The related legal process is currently underway,” the agency stated. “Groundless speculation and personal attacks directed at an unverified individual can cause serious harm to an innocent person.”
SEM Company urged internet users to immediately stop posting speculative comments and warned that it would take firm legal action, including lawsuits, against those who continue spreading malicious rumors or defamatory content.
The clarification comes as Hwang Jung Min and an individual identified only as A remain involved in a legal dispute. While Hwang Jung Min’s side has maintained that A committed stalking offenses, A has argued that the relationship involved mutual interaction, leading to conflicting claims now being addressed through legal proceedings.
Earlier this week, the agency stated that Hwang Jung Min had filed a criminal complaint against the alleged stalker. According to the agency, the court imposed temporary restraining measures on the suspect on three occasions and later issued a summary order imposing a 3 million KRW (approximately $2,100 USD) fine after recognizing the stalking charge.
A, however, has objected to the summary order and requested a formal trial. The individual has also filed a 200 million KRW (approximately $139,000 USD) civil damages lawsuit against Hwang Jung Min.
On July 30, Dispatch reported that A had originally been a devoted fan of the actor and that the two met on three occasions between 2023 and 2024. The report also stated that there had been no physical relationship between them.
Following the report, online speculation over A’s identity intensified, resulting in the personal information of unrelated individuals being circulated. In response, SEM Company said it would continue monitoring the situation closely to prevent further harm to innocent people.
