Highlight's Son Dongwoon is set to impress audiences, confirming his role in the 10th-anniversary production of the musical 'Gon Tomorrow.' He will embody the historical revolutionary figure Kim Ok Gyun, with performances beginning on September 15.
The musical 'Gon Tomorrow' will open at the Hongik Daehangno Art Center Grand Theater in Jongno-gu, Seoul. This historical drama draws inspiration from the final moments of Kim Ok Gyun, who sought asylum in Japan following the Gapsin Coup, and the assassination plot that surrounded him. Having premiered in 2016 and seen revivals in 2021 and 2023, the production has consistently garnered acclaim for its narrative and popular appeal.
For this 10th-anniversary run, 'Gon Tomorrow' will deepen its established storyline and emotional resonance while introducing fresh interpretations. These new layers aim to vividly portray the characters' relationships and choices. Son Dongwoon is poised to bring Kim Ok Gyun's convictions and internal conflicts to life, drawing viewers into the story with his nuanced emotional range and clear vocal delivery.
Son Dongwoon has built a substantial career in musical theater since 2012, appearing in significant productions such as 'Catch Me If You Can,' 'The Great Catsby RE:BOOT,' 'Sandglass,' and 'Jeon Woo Chi.' Earlier this year, he earned praise for his portrayal of Jin Ki Han in 'Along With the Gods_The Underworld.' His upcoming role in 'Gon Tomorrow' is expected to further cement his respected position as a versatile musical actor.
The 10th-anniversary performances of 'Gon Tomorrow' featuring Son Dongwoon will run from September 15 to November 29. Beyond the stage, Son Dongwoon maintains a packed schedule. He successfully held solo concerts 'Ever+' in Seoul last December and Tokyo this February, and fans can catch him on JTBC's new variety show 'Master and Idol: Jjangdol,' which premieres on June 26.
Meanwhile, Son Dongwoon's group, Highlight, has a series of exciting festival appearances lined up. They are slated to perform at the 'K-WAVE INFINITY K-pop Concert' in Kaohsiung on August 8, the '2026 CassCool Festival' in Gwacheon on August 22, and the 'Sustainable Wave Festival' in Incheon on August 30. These diverse engagements highlight Son Dongwoon's broad artistic reach and the group's ongoing connection with fans.
