Xdinary Heroes leader Gunil has officially left the group and terminated his exclusive contract with JYP Entertainment amid a personal controversy involving allegations of inappropriate conduct. The agency announced this firm decision on August 13, 2026, demonstrating a strong stance on the issue.
JYP Entertainment expressed that it fully recognized the seriousness of the situation concerning Gunil and engaged in extensive discussions with him. After careful consideration, both sides agreed that continuing group activities together was no longer possible, resulting in the mutual termination of Gunil's contract and his exit from the group.
Gunil's departure brings a significant shift for Xdinary Heroes, who will proceed as a five-member team consisting of Jungsu, Gaon, O.de, Jun Han, and Jooyeon. Gunil had served as the group's leader and drummer since their 2021 debut, making this change especially impactful.
The controversy began when a person claiming to be Gunil's former girlfriend shared private call recordings and alleged that Gunil made inappropriate remarks and used abusive language toward fans. Additional claims suggested he also directed improper language toward fellow members. However, JYP Entertainment has not confirmed these allegations and chose not to disclose specific details about the claims or the reasons behind the contract termination.
Although the agency withheld detailed explanations, its prompt decision to end Gunil's contract and his immediate withdrawal from Xdinary Heroes highlighted the company's long-standing focus on artist character. JYP Entertainment's founder and chief creative officer, Park Jin Young, has consistently emphasized truth, sincerity, and humility as core values for artists, stressing the importance of being a good person beyond just being a good singer.
Park Jin Young has previously cited 'truth' as a key virtue, explaining that artists should not have to restrain their words artificially but should naturally embody respectful behavior, including avoiding foul language. This philosophy has shaped JYP's approach to artist management and public conduct.
Gunil, born in 1998, studied at Berklee College of Music in the United States before debuting with Xdinary Heroes in 2021. His exit marks the first major lineup change for the group since their debut.
