Park Na Rae sent to prosecutors over alleged unregistered agency amid growing legal troubles

Park Na Rae has been referred to prosecutors on allegations that she operated her one-person entertainment agency without obtaining the legally required registration under South Korea's entertainment industry regulations. According to the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, on July 14, Park Na Rae was referred to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office on July 9 on charges of violating the Popular Culture and Arts Industry Development Act. Police determined that Park Na Rae established and operated her one-person agency without completing the mandatory registration process with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Under the law, anyone seeking to operate a popular culture and arts management agency must register with the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Operating an agency without registration is punishable by up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million KRW (approximately 14,500 USD). Investigators found that Park Na Rae's agency remained unregistered even in January of this year, after the government's industry grace period had ended. Authorities also confirmed that the registration had still not been completed as of July 14, when the case was officially transferred to prosecutors. The latest referral comes just days after police also sent Park Na Rae to prosecutors on July 10 on separate charges of special assault and violating the Information and Communications Network Act. Those allegations stem from complaints filed by former managers who accused the entertainer of workplace mistreatment. With the additional allegation of operating an unregistered management agency on top of the ongoing workplace abuse controversy, Park Na Rae now faces mounting legal challenges. The case has also drawn industry attention as authorities have recently cracked down on several celebrities accused of running entertainment agencies without complying with the country's mandatory registration requirements.
