Park Na Rae referred to prosecutors over alleged assault case

Broadcaster Park Na Rae has been referred to prosecutors over allegations involving the assault of a former manager, approximately seven months after the complaint was first filed.

According to police on July 10 KST, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station forwarded Park to the prosecution without detention on charges including special assault and violating the Information and Communications Network Act.

The case stems from a complaint filed in December of last year by Park’s former managers, who accused her of special assault, defamation by spreading false information, and violations of the Information and Communications Network Act.

One former manager alleged that Park verbally abused him for refusing to drink alcohol and claimed he suffered injuries after being struck by a glass she allegedly threw. The complainant submitted a medical report stating he sustained injuries requiring approximately two weeks of treatment, including four stitches to his hand.

Park has consistently denied the allegations.

She previously stated that while she had thrown a glass onto the floor, she had never thrown it at a specific person, adding that the claims regarding the alleged injuries were untrue.

After appearing for police questioning in February, Park said she had fully cooperated with the investigation and testified truthfully, adding that she would continue to correct what she described as false claims.

With the police investigation now complete, the case has entered a new stage as prosecutors review the evidence.

A referral to prosecutors does not mean the allegations have been proven. Prosecutors will determine whether additional investigation is necessary and whether to file formal charges.

Separately, police are continuing to investigate allegations that Park received illegal medical treatment through an individual known as the “injection aunt,” in connection with suspected violations of the Medical Service Act.
