Actor Kim Soo Hyun has returned to the public spotlight with his first official broadcast appearance in more than a year.
On August 23, Kim Soo Hyun attended ‘Mahakarya RCTI 37,’ a live special celebrating the 37th anniversary of Indonesian private broadcaster RCTI, in Jakarta. Appearing as a special guest, the actor greeted local fans through an onstage interview and other segments.
Ahead of the broadcast, RCTI welcomed him through its official social media account, writing, “Kim Soo Hyun is here! Honestly, you can feel how much everyone has missed him. Welcome back.”
Videos shared from the event showed Kim Soo Hyun smiling and waving to the large crowd gathered to see him. He also gave fans a thumbs-up and made hand hearts as they cheered for him.
The appearance marks Kim Soo Hyun’s first major public schedule since suspending most of his activities last year amid allegations concerning his past relationship with the late actress Kim Sae Ron. Kim Soo Hyun has denied claims that the two dated while she was a minor.
Meanwhile, YouTuber Kim Se Ui, operator of the Garo Sero Institute channel, was detained and indicted in June on charges including defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act.
Prosecutors allege that Kim Se Ui distributed edited KakaoTalk messages and a fabricated audio recording to support false claims that Kim Soo Hyun had dated Kim Sae Ron for six years beginning when she was 15. The criminal proceedings remain ongoing.
