Actress Kim Ji Won has donated 100 million KRW (approximately 71,000 USD) to help cover medical expenses for children suffering from severe and rare diseases. Seoul National University Children’s Hospital announced on August 10 that “actress Kim Ji Won donated 100 million KRW to support medical expenses for low-income patients and improve the hospital ward environment.” Kim Ji Won explained that she decided to donate after learning more about the struggles faced by medical professionals and children battling illnesses while filming her upcoming drama, ‘Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia.’ “I decided to make this donation after getting a closer look at the stories of medical professionals who work tirelessly and children who are suffering while filming ‘Doctor X,’” Kim Ji Won said. The donation will be used to help cover treatment expenses for children with severe, rare, and incurable diseases and their families. It will also help create a safer and more comfortable environment for children receiving treatment. “I sincerely want to express my gratitude and support to the medical professionals who continue to do their best, as well as the children and their families,” Kim Ji Won said. The hospital added, “We will use this generous donation to help families struggling with the financial burden of medical treatment and ensure that children who come to the hospital from across the country with hope can focus on their recovery.” Meanwhile, Kim Ji Won recently wrapped filming for SBS TV’s ‘Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia.’ The upcoming medical noir drama follows a doctor who proves her abilities solely through her skills. Kim Ji Won plays Gye Soo Jung, a genius surgeon known as the “mad dog” of the operating room. Her character takes on the corruption within the medical establishment and puts those in positions of power “on the operating table.” ‘Doctor X: Age of White Mafia’ is scheduled to premiere in October.
