Hong Jin Kyung opened up about why she ultimately chose to publicly address her divorce despite initially hoping to keep the matter private.
On the August 21 broadcast of 'Problem Child in House Season 2', comedians Kim Ji Sun and Jung Sun Hee appeared as guests and looked back on their longtime friendships within the entertainment industry.
During the episode, Jung Sun Hee recalled becoming close with Hong Jin Kyung after meeting her through a variety program and later working together as radio co-hosts.
Jung described Hong as someone unlike anyone she had met before, saying she freely expressed her thoughts and immediately acted on them. She added that it would be difficult to explain much of her own life without mentioning Hong, highlighting the depth of their friendship.
The conversation then turned to Hong Jin Kyung’s decision to announce her divorce through Jung Sun Hee’s personal YouTube channel.
Hong explained that she had originally wanted to avoid making a public announcement altogether.
“I wanted to keep it from being announced as much as possible, but reporters found out,” she said. “Rather than having an article come out and potentially creating misunderstandings, I thought it would be better for me to explain it properly myself.”
Hong said Jung was the natural person to have that conversation with because of how closely she had witnessed her life over the years.
“Sun Hee unnie was someone who knew my entire history,” Hong explained. “I thought revealing it while talking naturally with her would be the most comfortable way. I felt like there was no one else but her.”
Her remarks shed light on why she chose to address such a personal matter through a longtime friend’s platform rather than allowing reports about the divorce to emerge without her own explanation.
