Fans anticipating a fresh take on outdoor challenges can look forward to Netflix's new reality series 'Take a Hike!', which premieres on August 18. The show captures the intense journey of four beginners as they tackle Korea's snowy mountains for the first time.
The cast includes Car, the Garden, known for his soulful music, alongside DAY6's Dowoon, actor Lee Chae-min, as well as Tarzzan from ALLDAY PROJECT. None had prior hiking experience, making their expedition both physically and mentally demanding.
True to its title, the series explores why people voluntarily endure the hardships of mountain climbing. Renowned producer Na Young Seok and co-director Park Hyun Yong aimed to create a raw and authentic portrayal of the cast’s reactions as they face the harsh winter conditions.
The production team initially withheld the true nature of the project from the cast, leading to candid and often humorous responses during the recent press event, with some calling themselves 'victims' or joking about being deceived. This approach promises an honest look at their experiences.
The dynamic between the four participants adds another layer of interest. Car, the Garden acts as the reluctant elder brother and 'treasurer' of the hiking group, Dowoon earns the nickname 'minister of transportation' for his dedication to driving long distances to support the team, Lee Chae-min serves as the 'minister of foreign affairs' facilitating communication, and the youngest, Tarzzan, takes on the role of 'chairman' with strong responsibility and planning skills.
According to Park Hyun Yong, the cast showed their most genuine selves when confronted with the mountain’s challenges. Although initially awkward, their first hike quickly forged strong bonds, turning them into close friends through shared hardship.
The show also highlights the stunning winter mountain scenery of Korea. Park emphasized that while the winter mountains are harsh and rugged, they also offer some of the most beautiful landscapes, which the series captures with serious attention to detail, blending the intensity of the climb with breathtaking visuals.
Comprising 10 episodes, 'Take a Hike!' will be available on Netflix starting August 18, offering viewers a mix of humor, camaraderie, and awe-inspiring nature.
