Big Bang's Goyang concerts prompt safety checks for 108,000 fans

With Big Bang set to hold their 20th anniversary world tour concerts at the Goyang Sports Complex, local authorities are ramping up safety inspections as over 108,000 fans are expected to attend across three days.

On August 18, officials from Gyeonggi Province, Goyang City, concert organizers, and safety experts visited the venue to review movement routes and identify potential crowd congestion points. Their goal was to minimize risks and ensure smooth entry and exit for concertgoers during the highly anticipated event.

The concerts will take place from August 21 to August 23, with an estimated 36,000 attendees per day. This marks one of the largest gatherings in the area, prompting a comprehensive review of both the stadium’s internal and external safety protocols.

Officials emphasized that managing large-scale events requires more than just checking the condition of the stage and seating. They focused on how to disperse crowds efficiently, especially during peak times when fans line up before the concert and exit en masse afterward. These moments can lead to bottlenecks at entrances, exits, and public transportation points.

The inspection team closely examined the venue’s entry procedures, spectator movement flows, and areas around the stadium where crowd density could become a concern. During an on-site meeting, participants discussed the identified risks and possible response strategies for each organization involved.

However, the materials released by Gyeonggi Province did not specify the exact number of security staff, police, or firefighters to be deployed. Details on how crowds will be dispersed at each gate, criteria for measuring crowd density, and plans for coordinating with public transportation after the concerts were also not included at this stage.

The effectiveness of these safety measures will depend on how thoroughly the identified risks are addressed before the concerts begin. Ensuring clear signage for staff positions, directing movement at each entrance, and establishing crowd control protocols for emergencies remain key tasks ahead.

Gyeonggi Province plans to continue sharing safety updates with Goyang City and concert organizers until the final show on August 23. The province also announced it will strengthen on-site safety management for other large-scale concerts and festivals in the region moving forward.
